Winona-Ryder

Winona Ryder (born Winona Laura Hornowitz) was born in Winona Minnesota. Her parents named her Winona in honor of her hometown. Her father Michel Horowitz, and mother Cynthia Palmer are authors and editors. Ryder's father was born into a Jewish family. Ryder considers her self Jewish. The actress has a younger brother Uria and two half-siblings Jubal and Sunyata. Ryder as well as her entire family moved to Mendocino, California at the age of seven. Ryder was only seven years old. There was no electricity. Ryder who was an avid reader when she was 12, became a bookworm since Ryder had no access to television. Ryder began taking acting lessons in the American Conservatory Theatre in 1983, when she was 12. In 1986, she got her first role on the big screen in the film Lucas at just 15 years old. Ryder was bullied at high school. Ryder hoped her career in acting would end the way she dealt with bullying. However, the plan didn't pan out. It didn't stop her from making plans for her future. Beetlejuice the 1988 Tim Burton film, was her first big break. Ryder continued to be successful in her parts in a variety of films. In 1993 she received two nominations to win Academy Awards. One of them for her role as a character in The Age of Innocence.
